Oh Gracious God,
Parker Palmer once said, “Before you tell your life what you intend to do with it, listen for what it intends to do with you. Before you tell your life what truths and values you decide to live by, let your life tell you the truths you embody, what values you represent.”
Every day, chaplains, Pastoral Counselors and Spiritual Care leaders walk alongside those we’ve been called to serve as we collectively learn who we are in the eyes of our maker, before, during and after pursuing what we do in this world.
As we embark on this journey with our fellow man, we open ourselves to new images of God and we allow ourselves to be transformed and reformed as our universal creator reveals herself in every face we encounter. A call into a spiritual care vocation is a call to let go of familiar communities and religious structures, foregoing certainty for divine mystery. It is here that our lives find truths no dogma can capture. Oh Lord, may the lives of these ministry misfits speak truth and grace into stale structures and pretentious patterns opening our collective hearts to your radical love and acceptance of your people. May our lives speak through this work. AMEN.
