Many refugees who have fled their homes come to Uganda in hopes for a safer place to raise their children. Thankfully, there is primary education available in Uganda that allows refugee children to attend government schools. However, while most of the school fees are covered by the government, many of the extra fees and school supplies are not covered. Several of the refugee families who attend the Center of Hope in the capital city of Kampala struggle to provide these basic school supplies for their children.
This year at Christmas, Refuge and Hope was able to help meet some of those needs by providing “Bags of Joy.” One hundred backpacks made by our Sewing for Hope ministry were given to children of our students. The backpacks were filled with school supplies, basic toiletry items and a water bottle. These bags provided a practical way for refugee children to attend school. Please pray for the students at the Center of Hope and their families as they navigate the complexities of being refugees in another country. Pray that they always find the true Joy of Christmas, Jesus.
