By Andy Hale

In this week’s CBF Podcast Conversation, we sit down with Robert Callahan, an attorney, professor at Baylor Law School, and the author of the compelling new book, Fire in the Whole. Known for his powerful oratory skills and aggressive advocacy, Callahan has earned recognition as a leader in his field, including being named Lawyer of the Year in 2020 by the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers’ Association. His book delves into the intersection of faith, justice, and identity, examining the impact of white evangelical culture on personal and collective wholeness, and challenging Christians to embrace righteous anger as a catalyst for change.

Callahan reflects on the complexities of navigating faith in a world shaped by division and cultural violence. In Fire in the Whole, he confronts the reality of white evangelical complicity in political and social injustices, offering a bold critique of what he calls the “new Jim Crow theology.” He invites readers to reimagine faith beyond institutional confines, urging the church to reclaim its prophetic role in bringing hope and emancipation. With deep vulnerability, Callahan shares his own journey of reconstructing faith and identity, inspiring others to channel their anger into meaningful action that reflects the heart of Jesus.
