Amanda (not her real name) has been serving refugees with us for over five years. She’s not originally from Uganda but has made Uganda her home. Her break came when an organization offered her a scholarship to attend high school and then on to finish college.

When Amanda first interviewed, she came highly recommended from a friend saying she was amazing and needed a place to work while she figured out what God wanted her to do. Amanda said she wanted to workfor one year and then see what God had planned next. While we were hesitant to hire someone who openly said they were leaving soon, it has been a wise investment.

Five years later and she is still serving and figuring out what’s next. Everyday hundreds of refugees come to the Center of Hope.  Amanda helps lead our sports, music and art programs. She’s not the most athletic person but loves the youth with passion. She wants them to succeed whether in sports, in life or in their relationship with God.

Always smiling and joking around with the youth she plans and leads Bible studies that bring youth into a deeper relationship with God. For me, she’s not stuck and waiting for the next steps…she’s right where God wants her to be. Walking and doing life with the students, making an eternal impact.
