Recently I had the opportunity to celebrate the start of a project that will help grandparents who are raising their grandkids as their sole caretaker. The grandparents are given animals like chickens or goats to start raising and are taught how to grow family gardens. As part of the program, they are given food baskets to supplement their household’s nutrition for the first couple of months until their gardens and animals start producing. They also must give a percentage of the baby animals they raise to other families, so they too can start raising animals. The goal is to reduce levels of poverty in their respective communities by providing the resources and education to empower them to be self-sufficient. If successful, this project could be easily replicated in other areas. It is exciting to watch God on the move and to see where this leads!
