Little Rock, AR — Great Rivers Fellowship is pleased to announce the launch of its HBCU Academic Scholarship, a new initiative designed to support students pursuing higher educati
on at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The scholarship reflects the Fellowship’s ongoing commitment to more just educational opportunity, leadership development and investment in students whose gifts will help strengthen their communities and churches for years to come.
The HBCU Academic Scholarship will provide financial assistance to rising college seniors who are expected to complete their bachelor’s degree in the Spring term of the upcoming academic year. Eligible applicants must be enrolled at one of the following HBCUs: Philander Smith University (Little Rock, Arkansas), Arkansas Baptist College (Little Rock, Arkansas), Dillard University (New Orleans, Louisiana), Xavier University of Louisiana (New Orleans, Louisiana), Rust College (Holly Springs, Mississippi) or Tougaloo College (Tougaloo, Mississippi). The first award will be granted for the 2026–2027 academic year, supporting students as they enter the final season of their undergraduate studies and prepare for what lies ahead.
“This scholarship is one way Great Rivers Fellowship can invest in students who are already demonstrating leadership, perseverance, and promise,” said Dr. Pat Griffen, Chairperson of the GRF HBCU Scholarship Committee. “We are grateful for the opportunity to encourage their education and to support the important role HBCUs continue to play in shaping future leaders.”
The announcement comes as communities observe Juneteenth, a day that calls us to remember the past while affirming the hope of the future. In that spirit, this scholarship reflects a commitment to opportunity, dignity and the continued formation of leaders equipped to serve with wisdom and purpose.
