Mission Bite #154: A Life of Service

Leticia and her husband had marital problems. They fought constantly, partly because Leticia was a such a strong, highly motivated, determined woman. I worked with her through counseling to identify strengths and use her strong will in positive ways.

Several years later, Leticia appeared again on my radar, this time offering to volunteer in our ministry with the immigrant community. As a new believer, she wanted to give back to her community. She was soon managing LUCHA Ministries’ food assistance program and helped organize a Latino parents’ group in her children’s school. She also used her knowledge and training in food distribution to organize a food pantry in her church.

It has been almost 15 years since I met Leticia, and I’m grateful for her leadership with LUCHA. Leticia is proof of the transforming power of the gospel and a true servant in the Kingdom of God.

Dear God, we give thanks for your power to transform lives, touch hearts, and call individuals from all walks of life, from all languages and cultures, to a life of service. Amen.

Leticia y su esposo tenían problemas matrimoniales. Peleaban constantemente, y era en parte porque Leticia era una mujer fuerte, motivada, decidida. Trabajé con ella a través de consejería para identificar fortalezas y usar su fuerte voluntad de maneras positivas.

Años después, Leticia apareció nuevamente, esta vez ofreciéndose como voluntaria en nuestro ministerio con la comunidad inmigrante. Como nueva creyente, ella quería retribuir a su comunidad. Pronto administró el programa de asistencia alimentaria de los Ministerios LUCHA y ayudó a organizar un grupo de padres latinos en la escuela de sus hijos. También utilizó su conocimiento y capacitación en distribución de alimentos para organizar una despensa de alimentos en su iglesia.

Han pasado casi 15 años desde que conocí a Leticia, y estoy agradecida por su liderazgo con LUCHA. Leticia es una prueba más del poder transformador del evangelio y una verdadera sierva en el Reino de Dios.

Querido Dios, te damos gracias por tu poder para transformar vidas, tocar corazones y llamar a personas de todos los trasfondos, de todos los idiomas y culturas, a una vida de servicio. Amén.
