Mission Bite #183: A Country That Isn’t Yet Home

Facing bankruptcy and financial ruin in their South American country, Luis and his family risked everything for a chance to start over in the United States. Their challenges are similar to those faced by all of us but magnified for a new immigrant family. Homeschooling of elementary and middle school boys who don’t yet understand English; securing health services for a 75-year-old grandmother in need of a primary care provider and medication renewals to stay healthy; finding jobs when many companies are laying off or furloughing their current employees; paying the rent; purchasing food.

Luis is now sick, as well as grandma. They are afraid and unsure of their future, and they can’t return home. “We don’t know what do to. We trust in God, and we covet your prayers.”

Merciful God, we ask for your presence to be felt by immigrant and refugee families during these difficult times. Give them strength and courage to face the unique challenges they face in a country that isn’t yet home.

Un país que aún no está en casa

Ante la bancarrota y la ruina financiera en su país sudamericano Luis y su familia arriesgaron todo para tener la oportunidad de comenzar de nuevo en los Estados Unidos. Sus desafíos son similares a los enfrentados por todos nosotros pero aún más grandes por ser una familia que recién ha inmigrado. Sus hijos en primaria y secundaria que aún no entienden inglés y necesitan educarse. Los servicios de salud para la abuela de 75 años que necesita un proveedor de atención y renovar sus medicamentos. Encontrar trabajo cuando muchas empresas están despidiendo o suspendiendo a sus empleados. Pagar el alquiler, comprar comida.

Luis ahora está enfermo, al igual que la abuela. Tienen miedo y no están seguros de su futuro, y no pueden volver a casa. "No sabemos qué hacer. Confiamos en Dios y en sus oraciones”.

Dios misericordioso, pedimos que estas familias inmigrantes y refugiados sientan tu presencia en tiempos tan difíciles. Dales fuerza y valor para enfrentar los desafíos únicos que están atravezando en un país que aún no es su hogar.
