Recently, during a local holiday where we had a booth for people to discover the ministries going on in Barcelona through our local association Grupo 5/14, a woman from the neighborhood approached with an unexpected offer. Would we have any use for the leftover bread from her bakery? We said “yes!” not quite knowing what we’d do with it but trusting that something good would come.

Now, once a week, Clivi, a local leader in the ministry, stops by to pick up the bread. That simple act has opened beautiful doors. Not only has it helped supplement the food we share with families through the food bank at a local partner church First Baptist Sabadell, but it also led Clivi to a residence for unaccompanied minors in the city.

Because of his consistent presence, relationships are growing. Listening closely to the staff and youth, Clivi heard a need and is now exploring a program of support and connection for the boys, set to begin soon.

This is what ministry looks like in Barcelona. Presence that leads to friendship, and friendship that leads to transformation. It’s being led by people like Clivi, leaders from the neighborhood, invested for the long haul. This is how we believe lasting change happens: one relationship, one loaf of bread at a time.
