Pivot is a leadership development resource that challenges our traditional thoughts and beliefs about God’s mission in the world and our role in that mission. Many of us have participated in short-term mission trips and wondered both about the impact on the local community as well as on our team. From the mission preparation, on-site experience and pivoting back home, this resource will help train and equip individuals and congregations to think critically about our mission engagement internationally, regionally and locally.
Pivot is a workbook that follows a three stage process: Preparation, On-site Engagement, and Pivot Home. Each stage is 6-8 lessons. The Preparation stage asks the question “Why Practice Mission?” and explores Scripture, theology, leadership, our context and values to develop our own missiology. The On-site stage, designed to integrate the cross-cultural and learning experiences, looks at truly hearing and seeing the “other”, learning culture, and asset mapping. The third stage of the workbook is Pivot Home where teams are invited to apply what they’ve learned on-site to their home community.
