Thriving Excursion: Offsite Learning Lab Experience

Thursday June 20, 1:30-4:00
& Friday June 21, 1:30-2:30

Thriving & Meeting Needs

Have noticed that almost every youth room has its share of dingy, leftover, hand-me-down sofas? Why is that? Is it because we want our teens growing in their discipleship on the old sofa? It’s because the people of our church decided, “what the youth room need is my old couch…” and it became the aesthetic? Either way, many suspect its because it was given without asking.

Thriving in today’s landscape demands that we explore what people actually need, without just imposing our extras on them. To explore this idea in depth, join us for CBF’s first ever, Thriving Excursion Learning Lab Track. On Thursday we will visit Greensboro’s Interactive Resource Center  “a place for people experiencing homelessness to congregate in a safe space, connect with important services, and join in fellowship with one another.”

On Thursday we will visit IRC to learn about their work and being to imagine how we might take steps towards being better listeners to our call, our congregation, and our community. Then on Friday we will debrief the experience and begin to work with some tools adapted from Thriving Congregations to imagine how we might explore how our call can better meet the needs of our community back home.

Thursday, 1:30-4:00, Travel to IRC via provided transport
Friday, 1:30-2:30, reconvene for a debrief and frameworks for further exploration
