Walls Down, Arms Out

“You must not do harm to the immigrant.” Exodus 22:21

“Do not oppress the immigrant.” Exodus 23:9

“When an immigrant dwells among you, do not oppress the immigrant. The immigrant shall be to you as one born among you; you shall love the immigrant as yourself.” Leviticus 19:33-34

“Because all the land in the world belongs to God, in the eyes of God, we are all immigrants.” Leviticus 25:23

“You shall not deprive an immigrant of justice.” Deuteronomy 24:17

“Show kindness to one another, and do not oppress the immigrant.” Zechariah 7:9-10

“I was a stranger, and you took me in.” Matthew 25:35

“Welcome one another, as Christ has welcomed you.” Romans 15:7

With those words, sacred scripture calls all the people of God to a walls down, arms out life of welcome, kindness and care for the refugee, the asylum seeker, the migrating family and the immigrant.

For those of us who claim the name of Jesus to fail to live that way would be for us to break the law of love, the spirit of Christ and the heart of God. Amen.

“Fui forastero, y me acogiste.” Mateo 25:35

Amen. -Pastor Poole
